Peace Arch puts studio complex up for sale
Toronto's Dufferin Gate has a $3.95 million asking priceTORONTO -- Peace Arch Entertainment has put its Toronto studio complex Dufferin Gate Productions up for sale.
The 72,000 square foot facility, with five production offices, 16,000 square feet in studio space and three post production suites, was purchased in 2007, and now returns to the open market with a $3.95 million asking price.
Peace Arch president of TV Michael Taylor said the sale comes as the Toronto-based company continues to draw back from volume movie production to focus more on TV production and movie distribution in Canada, the U.S. and other foreign markets.
During the 1990s, Dufferin Gate was filled with TV movie shoots for Showtime Networks, as well as movie and TV work for Paramount, Columbia/Tristar and Granada Television.
In recent years, Dufferin Gate has mostly hosted local Canadian shoots, including CBC's "Little Mosque on the Prairies."
The sale of Dufferin Gate Productions also comes as the Toronto soundstage market continues to shift westwards from Toronto's portlands.
Cinespace Film Studios recently purchased 30 acres of industrial land on Kipling Avenue in west Toronto for a new film studio complex near Pearson Airport.
And film lighting and equipment supplier William F. White and Deluxe Laboratories all maintain facilities near to the Dufferin Gate Productions complex.
