Pelmorex gets green light for Environment net

OTTAWA -- Canadian broadcaster Pelmorex Media on Thursday said it is going green after Canada's TV regulator gave it a broadcast license to launch the Environment Network later this year.

Toronto-based Pelmorex, which owns and operates cable channel the Weather Network here, said that the digital cable channel will focus on the environment and climate change as it relates to Canadians.

"This new service is a natural extension of our current weather-related services and is a great fit with our existing infrastructure and expertise," Pelmorex Media chairman and CEO Pierre Morrissette said.

The broadcaster predicts the Environment Network will launch by the end of the year after it secures carriage agreements with domestic cable and satellite TV services.
