The Gravity star has mostly stayed out of the spotlight over the past 12 months and has been particularly selective about which film projects she takes on since she adopted her son, Louis, who's now five. But she'll be back on the big screen (or at least her voice will be) in this summer's Despicable Me spinoff Minions, in which she voices a super villain. She also recently filmed David Gordon Green's Our Brand Is Crisis, based on the documentary of the same name about the use of U.S. political campaign strategies in South America. And she's set to star as Tupperware marketing exec Brownie Wise in Tate Taylor's film about her life.
Bullock, 50, told People she laughed when she heard that she'd received this year's honor. "No, really. I just said, 'That's ridiculous,' " she says. "I've told no one."
In the People cover story, Bullock opens up about her life with her little man, saying that he still doesn't know what his mom does for a living.
"He thought I was an astronaut for a while," she says. "I want it to be so inconsequential and such a nonissue. I want him to be embarrassed by me like all other parents."
