Perrey Reeves, Jamie Chung Scope Wedding Gowns at Monique Lhuillier's NYFW Dinner
Love was in the air at the formalwear maven's New York Fashion Week dinner, where a bevy of about-to-be-married starlets started some serious dress planning.
Love was in the air at Monique Lhuillier’s spring 2015 show on Sept. 5. Mostly because it seemed as if every single person surrounding the Lincoln Center runway — Taissa Farmiga, Sophia Bush and stylist Mary Alice Stephenson included — instantaneously fell head-over-heels for the L.A.-based formalwear designer’s selection of shimmering, glittering, holographic gowns fit for a modern-day princess. But it was at Lhuillier’s intimate after-show dinner at Graydon Carter’s West Village haunt The Lion that guests really started to gush.
“I want to thank my soul mate,” Lhuillier said while speaking to a small crowd of friendly fans including Brad Goreski and Once Upon a Time star Jennifer Morrison. She was, of course, talking about her longtime husband and business partner, Tom Bugbee, who sat across from his wife at the long rose-and-candle-filled table. "We have two beautiful children," Lhuillier continued. "And they are our balance. It isn't just about fashion — there are other things."
After the room was finished letting out a collective "aww" (and also finishing up a first course of kale Caesar or burrata and pesto, depending on mood), Bugbee asked that — much like Thanksgiving dinner at a great-aunt's house — each of the 32 guests take a turn sharing a favorite runway look. And Sin City: A Dame to Kill For actress Jamie Chung didn't miss a beat.
"Oh, I loved that long lace dress," she swooned, pulling out an iPhone to reveal a photo of a long-sleeved, sheer-top gown fit for someone's dream wedding. As it happens, Chung is engaged. And soon, she was hollering across the room to newly engaged Entourage actress Perrey Reeves: "Perrey, it's not too early for you to start looking, too!"
The dress of the hour, which could show up at multiple celebrity weddings next year.
Reeves, having gotten engaged to boyfriend Aaron Fox just last week at New York's ACE Hotel, blushed and looked down at the raw diamond ring her fiancee custom-designed as a surprise. "I told you, there's only one wedding dress designer," she softly said of Lhuillier to Fox, who is accompanying her on her fashion week circuit. Soon, the couple were regaling their table with "their story" — right down to the dozens upon dozens of roses that Fox used to set the scene of his proposal as well as the simple way Reeves knows he's the one.
"I never stop laughing," she said.
New Girl's Hannah Simone also counted that particular long white confection as her favorite of the show. But by the time the brick-roasted chicken, truffle mac and cheese and steak had been cleared, she was more interested in another love affair: exchanging numbers with tablemate and apparent new friend Abigail Spencer.
"That dress was so beautiful," said Simone, who isn't currently engaged. "But I'm glad Jamie got to it first."
