Peter Copping Is the New Creative Director of Oscar de la Renta
The designer served in a similar role at Nina Ricci, before exiting the French fashion house earlier this month
Oscar de la Renta has found a creative director: Peter Copping, who departed from French label Nina Ricci in October. On Monday, the American fashion house announced the news, with Oscar de la Renta CEO Alex Bolen stating, "Peter will bring a fresh perspective to our brand, continuing the evolution of our business."
The New York Times reports that Copping will be responsible for ODLR's ready-to-wear collection, as well as the brand's line of bridal wear, accessories and home decor.
"Our industry has not always done the best job when it comes to changes in design leadership," said De la Renta in a statement. "My hope is that, in leading this selection and actively participating in the transition, I can ensure the right design future for our company and brand." As the Times notes, the 82-year-old Dominican American designer has been looking for a successor for some time now, especially with his health on the decline.
De la Renta — whose fans include Jessica Chastain and Zooey Deschanel — presented his fall 2015 collection during New York Fashion Week last month, where Barbara Walters was seated front row. Copping, who will report to de la Renta and Bolen, starts Nov. 3, with his first collection for ODLR to debut during February's New York Fashion Week.
