'Peter and the Starcatcher,' 'Porgy and Bess' Top L.A.'s Center Theatre Group Lineup

The schedule for the 2013-14 season at the Ahmanson Theatre has been unveiled.

Center Theatre Group has announced the lineup for the 2013-14 season for Los Angeles' Ahmanson Theatre.

The 47th season will feature the U.S. premiere of Neil Simon's The Sunshine Boys with Danny DeVito and Richard Griffiths; Peter and the Starcatcher; Harmony, the musical by Barry Manilow and Bruce Sussman; The Gershwin's Porgy and Bess; and Queen and Ben Elton's We Will Rock You.

Matthew Bourne's Sleeping Beauty and the U.S. premiere of The Last Confession starring David Suchet will also be part of the slate.

“This is a strong season that is jam-packed with the best of recent Broadway and West End hits,” said Michael Ritchie, CTG’s artistic director.

The Sunshine Boys, which played in London's West End last summer, follows former vaudevillian stars Willie Clark (DeVito) and Al Lewis (Griffiths) who are no longer speaking with each other after working together for 40 years. When a lucrative TV offer for one last show lures them into a grudging reunion, sparks fly in this classic comedy of showbiz and friendship. Sunshine Boys will be at the Ahmanson from Sept. 24 to Nov. 3, with the official opening set for Oct. 2.

Peter and the Starcatcher, a prequel to Peter Pan, is based on the novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. The play tells the tale of an orphan who heads to a faraway land, where he finds love, friendship and ultimately himself. It runs from Dec. 3 to Jan. 12, 2014.

Harmony, running from March 5, 2014 to April 13, 2014 (officially opening March 12), is inspired by the true story of the Comedian Harmonists, six men in 1920s and 1930s Germany who rose from unemployed street musicians to become world-famous entertainers.

Porgy and Bess runs from April 22, 2014 to June 1, 2014, with the opening set for April 23, 2014.

We Will Rock You, a "rock theatrical," is set in the future on a planet once called Earth that is now controlled by a big corporation. A pair of young renegades, Galileo and Scaramouche, dare to break free and bring the power of rock back to the people. It runs July 15, 2014 to Aug. 24, 2014 and officially opens July 16, 2014.

Sleeping Beauty will play for two weeks, from Nov. 21 to Dec. 1, 2013. The Last Confession will run from June 10, 2014 to July 6, 2014.
