The sexual assault documentary will be honored at the 27th Annual Producers Guild Awards.

The Hunting Ground is set to be honored with the 2016 Stanley Kramer Award at the 27th Annual Producers Guild Awards.

The award is meant to go to a production, producer or other individual whose achievement or contribution illuminates and raises public awareness of important social issues.

"This powerful documentary gives a voice to the victims of student sexual assault — a national problem too long clouded in secrecy and shielded from public attention," said PGA co-chairs Mike De Luca and Jennifer Todd. "The visceral reaction this film evokes has mobilized audiences worldwide to take action, and has served as a focal point in campus discussions and in revising institutional policies.

The Kirby Dick documentary takes an extensive, expansive look into how sexual assault is handled on college campuses nationwide.

The recipient of last year's award was Ryan Murphy's The Normal Heart. Hotel Rwanda, Precious and Fruitvale Station are among past winners of the honor.
