Phil King new topper at CTV

Named president of sports, vp of programming

TORONTO -- The management shuffle at Canadian broadcaster CTV continues with TSN president Phil King being named president of sports and vp of programming.

And Alan Marcovici has been promoted to executive vp of digital media after he spearheaded CTV's online coverage of the recent 2010 Winter Olympics from Vancouver.

The promotions follows Keith Pelley, who oversaw the Vancouver Games multiplatform coverage, earlier this week jumping to rival Rogers Media as its new head (HR, August 17).

King joined TSN, Canada's cable sports channel, in 1989 as a bean counter and quickly advanced as a keen negotiator of TV sport rights.

Pelley was also a former TSN president before moving up through the CTV ranks.

And Rick Brace will give up oversight of CTV's varied TV properties to King to focus on new business ventures for the top-rated Canadian broadcaster.

King's first duties include naming a new TSN president and head of Canada's Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium, which will provide coverage of the 2010 Summer Olympic Games.
