Philippe Dauman Out as Health Agent to Sumner Redstone
Settlement discussions have been going on for a week.
Sumner Redstone has restored his daughter Shari as a healthcare agent while Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman and deputy COO Tom Dooley have both stepped away from their roles as health agents to the ailing founder of the company, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed Wednesday.
Someone that insiders describe as a "longtime family friend" who lives near Sumner Redstone's home in the Beverly Park area of Los Angeles has also assumed the role of health agent because a judge was concerned that his daughter's primary residence is in Massachusetts.
The longtime family friend is not Manuela Herzer, the former girlfriend of Redstone who is actually suing to be reinstated as the billionaire media mogul's health agent. The parties, though, are "getting close" to settling the legal proceedings, THR confirmed Wednesday.
Settlement discussions have been going on for a week and, in fact, Dauman had been scheduled for deposition Tuesday, where he'd have been put under oath and asked probing questions about the 92-year-old Redstone's mental capacity. Dauman's highly anticipated appearance, though, was abruptly canceled.
Similarly, Shari Redstone had been scheduled to testify Wednesday, but her appearance also was canceled.
If a settlement isn't reached, the scuttled depositions would presumably be rescheduled and a trial pitting Herzer against Sumner Redstone would start probably in May.
