Philipps, O'Donnell, Byrd land pilots

'Cougar Town,' 'NCIS' spinoff flesh out casts

Busy Philipps, Dan Byrd and Brian Van Holt are joining Courteney Cox on ABC's comedy pilot "Cougar Town," while Chris O'Donnell has closed his deal to star in CBS' "NCIS" spinoff.

The single-camera "Cougar Town," from ABC Studios and writers Bill Lawrence and Kevin Biegel, stars Cox as Julia, a newly single 40-year-old mother with a 17-year-old son (Byrd).

Philipps will play Julia's friend and co-worker. The Paradigm-repped Van Holt will play Julia's ex and her son's dad, a loser.

ICM-repped Philipps was most recently seen in hit romantic comedy "He's Just Not That Into You." "Aliens in America" star Byrd recurs on "Heroes."

The "NCIS" spinoff, from CBS Par and Shane Brennan, centers on a team of naval investigators.

O'Donnell, repped by Endeavor and Untitled, will play Callen, the troubled, enigmatic lead agent whose natural talent for undercover work is legend. On the project, which will air later this season as a two-part episode of "NCIS," he joins LL Cool J, Louise Lombard, Peter Cambor and Daniela Ruah.
