Phillip Noyce to Helm WWII Movie 'The Devil’s Brigade'
The story follows Davie Berman, the only Jewish member of the Luciano mob, who helped the U.S. military turn the tide of events against the Germans in Italy during World War II.
Phillip Noyce (Salt, The Giver, The Bone Collector) will direct World War II action-thriller The Devil’s Brigade.
The film will tell the true story of how Davie Berman, the only Jewish member of the Luciano mob, helped the U.S. military turn the tide of events against the Germans in Italy during the war. In organizing a team of Sicilian Cosa Nostra to work with the Americans, he almost single-handedly drove the Germans out of the southern region of Italy and returned to America as a decorated hero.
Moshe Diamant will produce the film, and Foresight Unlimited will handle international sales. Principal photography is set to begin at the end of the year in France, with casting currently underway.
Noyce is known for his work across various action-dramas; most notably he directed the Oscar-nominated Salt starring Angelina Jolie and Liev Schreiber. He most recently completed the crime thriller Above Suspicion for Bold Films starring Emilia Clarke, Thora Birch and Jack Huston. Noyce, who is repped by WME, Cameron Creswell Agency and Fireman Entertainment, is currently in production on the TV drama series Reside starring Emily VanCamp and Matt Czurchry.
Foresight Unlimited is currently in production on Todd Robinson’s The Last Full Measure, starring Sebastian Stan, Christopher Plummer, William Hurt, Samuel L. Jackson, Ed Harris, Peter Fonda and Amy Madigan.
