'Pillars' adaptation set for Spain, Germany


Germany's ProSieben and Spain's Sogecable have become the first networks to sign up for Tandem Communications/Scott Free Prods.' adaptation of Ken Follett's "The Pillars of the Earth."

The two European commercial TV giants have picked up free-TV rights for their territories to the limited series, which is set around the building of a cathedral in 12th century England.

An Oprah Book Club Selection, Follett's novel has been a global sales phenomenon. Tandem is handling world sales.

Tandem topper Rola Bauer negotiated the deals with ProSieben free TV head Andreas Bartl and Sogecable head of acquisitions Cuatro Angel Lopez Armendariz. Tandem and Scott Free will begin prep on "Pillars" in the fall. (partialdiff)
