Pinewood to open world's largest drive-in

Facility to open with Pinewood-shot films

LONDON -- U.K. facility Pinewood Studios is taking the concept of creating big screen entertainment to a different level after opening what it boasts is "the world's largest cinema screen" onsite.

The facility -- home to the 007 stage -- said Wednesday it has converted its outdoor water filming facility into a cinema screen 73.1 metres (240 feet) wide by 18.3 metres (60 feet) high.

It will operate a drive-in and showcase a series of movies that Pinewood played a role in creating.

Movies unspooling on the screen will jump start with "The Omen" and "The Shining" scheduled for this Halloween, Saturday Oct. 31. Other movies to be offered include "The Bourne Ultimatum," "2001: A Space Odyssey," "Mamma Mia!" and "Superman."

But the ticket price reflects the event feel with the public expected to cough up £55 ($88) per car for the VIP parking and service package or standard tickets at £35 ($56) per car.

All tickets limited to four persons per car, Pinewood said, so leave those people carriers at home.
