Pink TV likely to go black as funding lags

PARIS -- French gay thematic channel Pink TV will most likely go off the air at the end of the month after struggling to attain €4.5 million ($5.9 million) in capital, the network's founder and president Pascal Houzelot told French radio station Europe 1.

Despite financial input from partners Canal Plus, TF1, M6 and Lagardere Active Media, the cable, ADSL and satellite channel needs an additional €1 million ($1.3 million) before the end of the month in order to stick around.

"We're not missing that much," Houzelot said, but the canceling of the channel is "a possibility that we can't pull away from."

Pink TV, launched in October 2004, began with a capital investment of €18 million and has a subscriber base of 106,000, compared with 65,000 one year ago.
