"We’ve been very fortunate, and good fortune should be shared with noble causes," Daniel Handler tweeted.

Daniel Handler, author of the "A Series of Unfortunate Events" novels, is donating $1 million to Planned Parenthood, BuzzFeed reports.

Handler, who goes by the pen name Lemony Snicket, tweeted on Sept. 28 that he and illustrator wife Lisa Brown would be making the generous donation to the non-profit that focuses on reproductive health.

"@LisaBrownDraws & I are giving 1 million dollars to @PPFA," he wrote. "We’ve been very fortunate, and good fortune should be shared with noble causes."

Later that day, Planned Parenthood expressed its appreciation for the gift. "Thank you so much for your support!" reads a tweet from the organization's Twitter feed.

Brown told BuzzFeed that she and Handler have donated to Planned Parenthood for years, calling it a "great organization that has provided top-quality health care for countless women and families in our lives."

"This year, Planned Parenthood has gone through a series of unfortunate events, and it felt right to make our support more public and more dramatic," she continued.

The announcement of the donation follows Planned Parenthood having endured criticism after videos surfaced earlier this year that appeared to show the organization's workers talking about selling fetal tissue.
