Playhouse Disney acquires Nelvana's 'Babar'

Canadian cartoon also to air on PD in France and Japan

TORONTO -- The U.S.-based Playhouse Disney has acquired CGI-animated series "Babar and the Adventures of Badou" from Nelvana Enterprises.

The Canadian animated series, an updated version of the classic "Babar" cartoon, will debut stateside on Disney Channel's learning-focused channel.

The U.S. deal follows German kids broadcaster Ki.Ka last month acquiring the first 26 episodes of the animated series, a Canada-France co-production between Nelvana Studio and TeamTO.

Nelvana earlier sold the cartoon series to YTV in Canada, TFI in France, and Australia's ABC TV.

The Canadian cartoon is also to air on Playhouse Disney in France and Japan, and Disney Channel in Italy and Spain.
