PNC gets animated with Motion Pixel

NEW DELHI -- Bollywood production company Pritish Nandy Communications has signed a five-film deal with Florida-based Motion Pixel Corp., which owns animation facility Estudio Flex in Costa Rica.

"The $25 million pact incorporates five 3D animated full-length Bollywood feature films with Indian and international actors doing voiceovers," according to a statement released Friday. "The first of the films currently in production is based on one of PNC's previously produced live-action films and is slated for a 2008 release.

While PNC will focus on the creative content of the films, including script development and the casting of leading Bollywood and international talent for voiceovers, MPC will handle animation via Estudio Flex. PNC will own the India and global copyright while MPC will get 50% of total revenue.

Though details of which PNC catalog titles will be adapted for were not given, PNC chairman Pritish Nandy said that some of the animated movies may be sequels (or even prequels) of previously released live-action films. "The animated versions will be even more exciting than the original feature films," he said.

In the past, PNC has produced "Bollywood Calling," "Mystic Masseur," "Kaante" (Thorns), "Chameli" and "Pyar Ke Side Effects" (The Side Effects of Love), among others.

"We are excited to launch with a company of the stature of PNC, that knows and understands the Indian market domestically as well as globally," MPC chairman Manny Bains said.
