'Pocoyo' kids' series heads to Italy

Show will debut on RAI 2 channel this month

MADRID -- Italy's RAI 2 has signed on for free-to-air TV rights to Zinkia and ITV Studios Global Entertainment's popular CGI preschool series "Pocoyo."

The show will debut this month on RAI 2, running two episodes back-to-back Tuesday to Thursdays and one episode on Fridays.

"Pocoyo" has been licensed in over 100 territories, including the U.S. (Univision and WGBH), Mexico (Televisa), Canada (Treehouse), the U.K. (Five's Milkshake and CITV) Australia (ABC), Portugal (RTP), Spain (TVE), Latin America (Discovery Kids) and Japan (WowWow).

The series' multiplatform strategy has turned the product into an entertainment brand, selling more than 2.7 million toys, 1.3 million books and on the DVD front shifting over 1.4 million units.

For Fernando de Miguel, Managing Director and CEO of Zinkia, entry into the Italian market represents an important step forward in the company's strategy.

"RAI 2 is the best alliance for assuring that Pocoyo will captivate Italian television viewers, due to its coverage, prestige and viewer levels," de Miguel said.

Worldwide TV distribution rights for Pocoyo are handled by ITV Studios Global Entertainment, excluding Spain, Italy, Portugal and Latin America, which are handled by Zinkia.
