TORONTO -- The Weinstein Co. has promoted Michal Podell to senior vp acquisitions and business and legal affairs just in time for the Toronto International Film Festival.

The former vp international business and legal affairs adds acquisitions and a title bump to her position as she joins executive vps acquisitions Michelle Krumm and Maeva Gatineau on the hunt for Toronto titles. She will report to them and executive vp business and legal affairs Eric Roth in the company's New York office.

In addition to her acquisitions duties, Podell will continue negotiating deals on remakes, co-productions and co-financing of features.

"Michal has been an integral member of the Weinstein Co.'s international team since the start of the company. She has superb taste in films and knowledge of the acquisitions business around the world," Krumm said. Her team has been circling everything from obscure Chinese documentaries to the Toronto titles "Battle in Seattle" and "George A. Romero's Diary of the Dead," along with other buyers.

Podell joined the Weinstein Co. in October 2005 and has helped negotiate several deals, including a joint development, production and financing deal for a multipicture slate of CG-animated feature films, DVDs and TV shows with Exodus Film Group.

Before that, Podell served as director of business and legal affairs at New Line Cinema and worked in the entertainment group at Los Angeles law firm Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton.
