Poland planning digital rollout

$4.9 mil program for projectors under way

MOSCOW -- A national program for switching Polish theaters to digital projection has been launched as a joint effort of the culture ministry, the Polish Filmmakers Assn., the Polish Film Institute and the National Chamber of Audiovisual Producers.

Under the program, which will cost an estimated $4.9 million, digital projectors will be installed in 300 theaters, a move that will help cut the cost of one print from up to €2,000 ($3,100) to €200 ($310). The program may get some funding from the European Union as well, Polish authorities said.
