Two things that Barack Obama and American Idol finalist Elise Testone have in common: their electability hinges on voter enthusiasm, with 2012 being a crucial year for the contenders; and they both share a love of Al Green, specifically his song “Let’s Stay Together.”
On Wednesday’s performance show, wherein Jermaine Jones was dismissed for concealing arrest warrants, Testone put her own bluesy spin on the Green classic, recovering fully from last week’s weak Whitney Houston moment. Idol judges fully approved, and producers seized the opportunity to show a split-screen duet of the 28-year-old South Carolina native singing along with Obama.
