On Tuesday, Amy Schumer responded to the roughly 200 audience members in Tampa, Fla., who walked out of her stand-up show after she started insulting Donald Trump and talked about gun control and other political issues. During her performance at New York’s Madison Square Garden, Schumer read an open letter to the Tampa walk-outs.
“Dearest Tampa, I’m sorry you didn’t want me, a comedian who talks about what she believes in, to mention the biggest thing going on in our country right now,” Schumer read aloud. “How could I think it was OK to spend five minutes having a peaceful conversation with someone with different views?”
“After the show, I want you to know that I will go straight to a rehab facility that will teach me how to make all people happy,” continued Schumer. “Both the rich, entitled, white people who are going to vote for him and the very poor people who have been tricked into it! And Tampa, I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have said that [Trump] was an orange, sexually assaulting, fake-college-starting monster. Shouldn’t have said that. I will never again say that he is an orange, sexually assaulting, fake-college-starting monster. Ever again.”
The comedian said she was grateful to everyone in the audience that night in Florida, even the people who left.
“I look forward to putting this all behind us in a couple of weeks when Hillary Clinton is our motherf—ing president!” she exclaimed, to loud cheers from the Manhattan audience.
On Sunday in Florida, in addition to calling Trump an “orange, sexually assaulting, fake-college starting monster,” Schumer brought a Trump supporter up on stage and asked him questions. “Do you get worried at all with how impulsive he is, that he gets so fired up from Saturday Night Live doing a skit on him?” said the comedian. “Do you get worried he’ll be impulsive and get us in a lot of f—ing trouble we can’t get out of?”
