Donald Trump will appear on 60 Minutes this Sunday with Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, his presumptive running mate, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed on Thursday.
According to sources, Lesley Stahl got the plum first interview with Pence together with Trump, the soon-to-be GOP candidate for president.
Trump was set to make his choice of Pence official Friday morning, but postponed the announcement Thursday evening following the deadly truck attack in France.
Trump had narrowed down his pick to four potential men, including former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.
Roll Call, the publication distributed to members of the U.S. House and Senate, reported Thursday that Trump’s decision has been made, and it is Pence. Later, one of Pence’s local outlets, The Indianapolis Star, also reported the decision.
A spokesperson for Trump, though, did not respond to a request for confirmation.
While CBS’ 60 Minutes gets the first interview of Pence and Trump together, Fox News Channel’s Sean Hannity will interview Pence on Friday night on his show, Hannity, according to The Drudge Report.
Fox News did not respond to a request for confirmation.
By picking Pence, Trump could shore up support from the social conservatives that make up much of the base of the Republican party. Pence has spoken out against same-sex marriage, and liberal women’s groups are excoriating him over his recent tightening of abortion laws in Indiana.
Pence is also a fiscal conservative who advocates for budget reform, and he is one of the more outspoken opponents of President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act.
