Another group has joined the chorus of people demanding NBC drop Donald Trump as host of Saturday Night Live.
The GOP presidential candidate is slated to host the show on Nov. 7, a decision met with backlash from numerous Latino and immigration advocacy groups.
On Wednesday, Culver City-based Brave New Films announced it had joined the boycott, which included making a short video to persuade NBC and SNL‘s Lorne Michaels to dump the former Apprentice host.
“We all know Trump is a joke. This one isn’t funny,” the video states before highlighting the violence connected with Trump’s anti-undocumented immigrant remarks.
“Trump’s hate speech has had horrible real-world consequences for the Latino community. Saturday Night Live giving him more of a platform is unthinkable,” Robert Greenwald, president of Brave New Films said in a statement. “Would they do that for someone saying hateful things about Jews, or black people, or gay people? Of course not.”
Advocacy groups America’s Voice and MoveOn.org started a petition — which currently has more than 142,000 signatures — to rid the show of Trump.
The billionaire businessman, responding to the pushback, said NBC would never drop him from the popular sketch show because the network and Michaels know his presence will draw a large viewership.
