Donald Trump did not back down from his controversial comments about immigrants.
The real estate mogul, who earned flak for saying in his presidential campaign speech earlier this month that Mexican immigrants are “rapists” and “bringing crime,” appeared on CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday and stood by his remarks. Univision has since cut ties with Trump’s Miss Universe Organization following the incendiary speech.
“I like Mexico,” Trump told CNN’s Jake Tapper. “I love the Mexican people. I do business with the Mexican people, but you have people coming through the border that are from all over. And they’re bad. They’re really bad.”
“You have people coming in, and I’m not just saying Mexicans — I’m talking about people that are from all over that are killers and rapists, and they’re coming into this country,” Trump continued.
He also addressed the recent Supreme Court ruling to legalize gay marriage, saying that he supports “traditional” marriage. Tapper then asked if the fact that he has been married three times undercuts his take on nuptials.
“I have a great wife now,” Trump said. “My [first] two wives were very good. And I don’t blame them, but I was working … 22 hours a day.”
Video of Trump’s interview can be seen below.
