Donald Trump’s performance during the second presidential debate was strangely familiar to some viewers.
During the event held in St. Louis and moderated by CNN’s Anderson Cooper and ABC’s Martha Raddatz, several Twitter users noted that Trump’s insistence about his recently released tape from 2005 being “locker room talk” sounded a lot like the previous night’s impression of Trump on Saturday Night Live.
When Cooper asked the Republican presidential candidate if he knew that his words on the video were considered sexual assault, he again called his comments “locker room talk,” pivoting to ISIS and “more important topics” to debate. “They are just words, folks,” Trump said. “They are just words.”
On Saturday, Baldwin reprised his Trump impression in a cold open sketch about those tapes, talking to Cecily Strong, who appeared as a news anchor covering the controversy. “Are you not entertained?” said Baldwin. “I would like to take this time to formally ap—ologize,” he said, mispronouncing the word “apologize” and constantly trying to change the subject.
Baldwin (as Trump) said he’d like to apologize to those offended by his remarks, but “more importantly, to the people who were turned on by them. I hear it’s really 50-50.” He added that he was speaking like a “childish, 59-year-old man.”
