President Trump on Friday night took to Twitter to taunt newly minted Los Angeles Laker LeBron James following an interview Monday with the NBA star and CNN’s Don Lemon, whom Trump also dubbed “the dumbest man on television.”
“Lebron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television, Don Lemon. He made Lebron look smart, which isn’t easy to do. I like Mike!” Trump wrote, presumably referring to NBA legend Michael Jordan.
Lemon interviewed James about his recently announced I Promise School, a public elementary school for at-risk children in his hometown of Akron, Ohio. During the sit-down, James reiterated his disdain for the president, telling Lemon, “What I’ve noticed over the past few months [is] he’s kinda used sports to kinda divide us, and that’s something that I can’t relate to.”

On Saturday, Lemon shot back at the president on Twitter, “Who’s the real dummy? A man who puts kids in classrooms or one who puts kids in cages? #BeBest.” He also linked to a CNN video of James discussing his “I Promise” school.

James famously tweeted last year that the president was a “bum” after a number of Golden State Warriors, including Steph Curry, said they would not go to the White House and Trump disinvited the team after they beat the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals.
“U bum @StephenCurry30 already said he ain’t going! So therefore ain’t no invite. Going to White House was a great honor until you showed up!” James tweeted at the time.
This is not the first time Lemon and the president have traded barbs, either. Lemon recently told late-night host Stephen Colbert during an appearance on CBS’ The Late Show that he had to unfollow the president on Twitter after comments Trump had made in the past. “Five nights a week, two hours I have to talk about the president. I know what he’s doing,” he said. “Yeah, I unfollowed. It’s too much. There’s too much tweeting and too much confusion, but I don’t pay attention to that.”
