It appears Donald Trump has picked a fight with Megyn Kelly because the Fox News host hit him with some tough questions during Thursday night’s GOP debate. The presidential hopeful was so upset that he retweeted someone calling her a “bimbo” and someone else calling her a “loser.”
In a 13-hour period after the debate, Trump tweeted or retweeted more than a dozen disparaging comments about Kelly. Trump’s displeasure with her began in one of the earliest, and most memorable, moments of Thursday’s debate when Kelly asked Trump:
“You’ve called women you don’t like ‘fat pigs,’ ‘dogs,’ ‘slobs’ and ‘disgusting animals,’” Kelly began. “Only Rosie O’Donnell,” Trump interrupted, eliciting laughter and applause from the Republican audience.
Kelly’s lengthy question included more examples of Trump being uncivil, and she concluded with: “How will you answer the charge from Hillary Clinton, who is likely to be the Democratic nominee, that you are part of the war on women?”
Trump later told reporters (and anyone else who’d listen) that Kelly’s question was “unprofessional” and “unfair.” He said on CNN that there was “blood coming out of her eyes” when she asked her “ridiculous questions.” Kelly hasn’t weighed in on Trump’s accusations but might address them Sunday during her appearance on the show, Mediabuzz.
Fox News, though, has responded (sort of) with a statement issued by CEO and chairman Roger Ailes.
“I’m extremely proud of all of the moderators — they asked tough, important questions and did their job as journalists. I think that was the best political debate team ever put on television. Their performance was outstanding,” Ailes stated.
Late Thursday, GOP candidate Carly Fiorina took Kelly’s side, tweeting: “I stand with @megynkelly.” She also tweeted: “Mr. Trump: There. Is. No. Excuse.”
Meanwhile, on his radio show Thursday former Fox News employee Glenn Beck gave Trump a bit of unsolicited advice: Don’t mess with Megyn.
“Megyn Kelly is not stupid. She is not to be trifled with,” Beck said Thursday, before recalling a half-hour chat he had with her in her office at Fox News.
“I walked out of that office and I thought, ‘never tangle with her,’ because she is wicked smart, and she will cut you up into little teeny pieces for sharks before you even know you’re near water,” he said. “He has now made her into an enemy.”
