AP ImagesHollywood has donated $4.5 million to the super PAC allied with Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, according to figures filed with federal regulators Friday.
Media mogul Haim Saban and wife Cheryl each contributed $1 million to Priorities USA, while Jeffrey Katzenberg and Steven Spielberg each gave $1 million. J.J. Abrams and wife Katie McGrath gave a combined $500,000 to the group, which raised $15.6 million in the first six months of this year.
More than $12 million of Priorities’ war chest has been collected in the month since Guy Cecil, a former top aide to the one-time first lady and secretary of state, joined the Super PAC. Up to that point, Priorities had struggled to bring in contributions from major donors.
In addition to the Hollywood contributors, George Soros was a major donor, giving $1 million. Financier Donald Sussman and philanthropist Barbara Lee also were among the top tier contributors to Priorities, along with the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. Organized labor is expected to play a major supporting role in the Clinton campaign.
Priorities’ take, however, was dwarfed by the $103 million collected during the first six months of the year by Right to Rise, a super PAC aligned with Republican Jeb Bush’s campaign.
