A conversation about women voters on Fox News’ The Five has incited a lot of backlash toward host Kimberly Guilfoyle, who some feel implied young women shouldn’t vote and should instead focus on online dating sites.
The segment involved a discussion about whether the Democrats’ accusation that the Republicans are fighting a “war on women” would prove effective on election day this year. This lead to a dialogue about the correlation between political party and age, with Greg Gutfeld saying, “With age comes wisdom, and it’s a known fact that the older that you get, the more conservative you get.”
Guilfoyle’s controversial comments began soon after.

“But when you’re young like that, you think — same reason why young women on juries are not a good idea, they don’t get it,” said the former prosecutor. “They’re not in that same life experience of paying the bills, doing the mortgage, kids, community, crime, education, healthcare. They’re like healthy and hot and running around without a care in the world.”

When Bob Beckel interrupted to say that young women should be on juries and have “every right in the world” to serve, Guilfoyle clarified her statement. “I didn’t say they shouldn’t be,” she said. “I just thank and excuse them so they can go back on Tinder and Match.com.’ “
Guilfoyle’s young women “don’t get it” comments, combined with her quip about Tinder, were met with outrage. “Fox News to young women: Don’t worry about voting, just focus on your Tinder profile,” wrote Salon. Huffington Post also published an article entitled Fox News Hosts Tell Young Women Not To Vote, Go Back To Tinder And Match.com. And many people expressed their disappointment on Twitter.

However, on the other side were conservative outlets that said Guilfoyle’s remarks were taken out of context. Some Twitter users echoed these outlets and defended what Guilfoyle had to say about age and being an informed voter.
I completely support @kimguilfoyle ‘s remarks. Sorry, age/experience DOES matter in whether you’re an informed voter. http://t.co/ryTrN3a4Xe

Guilfoyle tweeted Thursday afternoon that she was planning to explain her comment on that night’s episode of The Five.
Should young women (or men for that matter) who haven’t studied the issues… cast their vote at the ballot box? That discussion on @TheFive
