Speaking to Tom Llamas during her first solo trip abroad to Africa, the first lady said that she isn’t worried about speculation of a troubled marriage with the president.
“It is not a concern and focus of mine. I’m a mother and a first lady and I have much more important things to think about and to do,” the former model — who shares son Barron, 12, with President Trump — said. “I know people like to speculate and the media like to speculate about our marriage.”
Asked if she’s ever hurt by the gossip, Melania Trump responded, “Media, what is speculating, yeah, it’s not always pleasant, of course. But I know what is right and what is wrong and what is true or not true.”
Llamas then specifically asked Trump about her spouse’s alleged affair with porn star Stormy Daniels (real name: Stephanie Clifford). Daniels previously detailed an alleged sexual encounter and ensuing relationship with Donald Trump during a 2011 interview with In Touch Weekly. Daniels said the encounter took place in 2006, one year after Trump married Melania. The interview was finally published in January 2018.
The president vehemently denied he and Daniels had sexual relations. Later, it was revealed that Trump’s former attorney Michael Cohen paid Daniels $130,000 in hush money ahead of the 2016 election. Trump claimed to have no knowledge of the payment.
While speaking with Melania Trump, Llamas brought up a previous statement from the president’s new attorney, former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, who asserted that Melania “believes her husband” and “knows” the alleged affair with Daniels is “not true.”
“I never talked to Mr. Giuliani,” FLOTUS said, adding that she’s unsure as to why Giuliani made that statement. “I don’t know. You need to ask him.”
Finally, Llamas asked about the state of the Trumps’ marriage. “Yes, we are fine. Yes, it’s what media speculate and it’s gossip,” the first lady said. “It’s not always correct stuff.”
In other clips from her interview with ABC News, which aired on GMA earlier this week, Melania Trump shared her thoughts on the #MeToo movement and said that she believes she’s the “most bullied person in the world.”
