Getty ImagesOn the heels of Election Day, during his final campaign rally, President Obama shed a few tears in Iowa while recalling his historic victory four years before.
“For all of you who’ve lived and breathed the hard work of change I want to thank you. You took this campaign and you made it your own and you organized yourselves, block by block, neighborhood by neighborhood, county by county,” Obama told the crowd of 20,000, his voice hoarse, as he wiped away what appeared to be tears around his left eye.
Appearing onstage with wife Michelle Obama, the president delivered the 29-minute speech near his 2008 campaign HQ in Des Moines. He did not mention Mitt Romney.
“This is the final event of my husband’s final campaign,” the First Lady said. “So this is the last time that he and I will be on stage together at a campaign rally. And that’s why we wanted to come here to Iowa tonight.”
The First Couple then flew to Chicago to stay at their home on the city’s South Side.
