A Secret Service agent’s laptop that reportedly contained Trump Tower floor plans and information regarding the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails was stolen Thursday morning.
“The U.S. Secret Service can confirm that an employee was the victim of a
criminal act in which our Agency-issued laptop computer was stolen,” the agency confirmed on Friday. “Secret Service-issued laptops contain multiple layers of security including full disk encryption and are not permitted to contain classified information.”
The Secret Service said the investigation is ongoing and that the agency won’t be commenting further until “the facts are gathered.” Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the NYPD and Secret Service New York field office.
The New York Daily News was first to report on the stolen laptop earlier Friday.
According to anonymous police sources, the laptop contained “sensitive” national security documents, including the floor plans for President Donald Trump’s New York City residence and former headquarters, as well as information on the investigation into Clinton’s private email sever.
Melania Trump and son Barron currently live at Trump Tower.
The Daily News reported the laptop was taken from an agent’s car while parked in the driveway of her home in Brooklyn.
“There’s data on there that’s highly sensitive,” the police source added. “They’re scrambling like mad.”
