Actors Tom Arnold and Dean Cain took a feud that began on Twitter and turned it into a real-life heated argument backstage at Larry King’s studio on Tuesday.
“I’m not a racist person; I never have been,” an irritated Cain says to Arnold in video obtained by The Hollywood Reporter.
Cain, best known for his portrayal of Superman in the Lois & Clark TV series, was challenging Arnold over his Sept. 22 tweet that read: “@RealDeanCain is another @realDonaldTrump loving fake Christian coward which makes Dean Cain anti-LGBTQ & racist. #complicit.”
“Tom, you’re a cowardly, slanderous weasel,” Cain tweeted in response.
In the two videos posted here, Cain is seen Tuesday morning confronting Arnold, who repeatedly demands to see the three-week-old tweet that Cain refers to, though he cannot immediately produce it in the heat of the moment.
“I’ve always supported gay rights. … Let me finish for a second. You’re giving me guilt by association,” Cain tells Arnold.
The onus for Arnold’s tweet, according to insiders, was his objection to Cain appearing at the Values Voter Summit, hosted by conservative Christian group The Family Research Council, which, in the video, Arnold likens to “Nazis.”
“They’re hurting people — you know how many suicides of fucking gay kids? … They fucking shame them and they try to keep them out of fucking schools. … Please hear me. That’s why it’s so visceral. … I don’t want those fuckers using you,” says Arnold, waving his hand in front of Cain.
“Nobody is using me. I speak my mind,” Cain says.
Cain was at the Glendale, California, studio as a guest on Larry King Now, which airs on Ora TV and Hulu, to promote his upcoming anti-abortion film, Gosnell: The Trial of America’s Biggest Serial Killer, while Arnold was there to plug The Hunt for the Trump Tapes With Tom Arnold, which airs on Viceland.
When a bystander aimed a cellphone at the two actors, someone from the Arnold camp told them not to record the argument. The witness shut his phone down then turned it on again in secret, hence there are two videos and some of the middle of the exchange is missing.
“Dean was intense. He looked ready to do something if Arnold came at him,” says a witness.
In the end, Arnold and Cain hugged it out, though the feud escalated anew when Cain tweeted: “He called me #racist and said I was anti-LGBTQ. Totally untrue. After I confronted him, he backed down. That’s how it always seems to work.”
“I didn’t back down,” Arnold told THR. “I was giving him a break by not assuming he was stupid about the FRC, which I do liken to Nazis, and now I see he’s one of them.”
Arnold also said he was upset about Cain’s decision to star in Gosnell, which tells the true story of abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell and opens Friday. “It’s a shit-fucking movie,” Arnold said.
“He played this icon, Superman, but he’s an idiot,” Arnold said. “If he wanted to fight, I took my glasses off for him. He’s a fucking pussy. Next time I see him we’ll get it going and his buddy can film it.”
