Trump Denounces Political Violence Amid Mail-Bomb Investigation

President Trump told a crowd on Friday that a suspect in the mail-bomb scare from this week is now in custody, and says he will be prosecuted “to the fullest extent of the law.”

The president, speaking to the Young Black Leadership Summit, assured everyone that “these terrorizing acts are despicable and have no place in our country.” He also took a moment to thank the media in the room. 

His speech comes after suspicious packages were sent to CNN, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and several other leaders. More than 10 suspicious packages were reported and several are still being investigated. 

He continued: “We must never allow political violence to take root in America.”

But it wasn’t long before his rhetoric changed. “I get attacked all the time,” he said. “Come to think of it, who gets attacked more than me?” he asked, while the crowd yelled “fake news!”

He later added that many say that his slogan, “put America first,” is being considered “racist,” which he doesn’t understand, which prompted a “U-S-A!” chant. 

Trump went on to address the crowd, calling everyone “beautiful and handsome faces” even though it might not be “politically correct.” “You can’t say those things anymore.” 

His remarks took place hours after the president tweeted, complaining that Twitter removed several of his followers and saying that “this ‘Bomb’ stuff happens and the momentum greatly slows – news not talking politics. Very unfortunate.”
