While Donald Trump remains steadfastly unapologetic over his calls for a “complete shutdown” on Muslims entering the U.S., over in the Middle East — where he has a number of business dealings — it appears the Republican frontrunner’s face is slowly being erased.
Just days after it was revealed that Trump Home products had been pulled from the shelves of one of the region’s biggest chain stores, a massive billboard featuring the property tycoon at the construction site of one of his latest developments was removed in Dubai.
The Akoya development — a 42-million-square-foot residential and retail project being built by Damac properties said to be “inspired by the quintessential Beverly Hills lifestyle” — is a collaboration with the Trump Organization and Paramount Hotels & Resorts, and is set to include the Trump International Golf Club Dubai.
But while Trump still features heavily in the promotional blurb, the large poster of Trump himself enjoying a game of golf is now gone. Various Trump signage has also been removed, including the gold letters that once read ‘Trump International Golf Course’ across the gate house.
“Obviously you can see what has happened, but I have no comment on it,” said Damac’s vp communications Raed Gerges, speaking to local broadsheet The National. “We will replace the images, but I cannot say what the images will be yet.”
In a statement earlier in the week, Damac said it had no plans to change its arrangement with the Trump Organization, and wouldn’t be commenting on “Mr. Trump’s personal or political agenda.”
The removal of Trump’s face from the company’s posters could suggest the tide is now changing.
