Viola Davis and Other Actors Who Played Lawyers Ask Real Lawyers to Help “Protect the Election”
A slew of stars — including Viola Davis (How to Get Away With Murder) and Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife) — appear in a PSA debuting Thursday to ask lawyers to help "protect the election."
They’re not lawyers, they just played one on TV. And now they are asking for help from real lawyers.
A slew of stars — including Viola Davis (How to Get Away With Murder) and Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife) — appear in a PSA debuting Thursday to ask lawyers to help “protect the election.”
The PSA, from We the Action’s Election 2020 Task Force, urges attorneys to “play a critical role in ensuring that people are able to exercise their right to vote — and have it count.” The group will connect lawyers with Democratic voting organizations across the country to “help staff remote voter hotlines, serve as poll workers and observers and cure mail-in ballots.”
“It is essential that we do everything we can to make sure everyone who is eligible can cast their vote,” Margulies says in the PSA.
Lawyers are asked to “help safeguard the election,” says Christina Baranski (The Good Wife), and “work with organizations that protect the right to vote by ensuring the election is safe, secure and accessible to communities around the country,” adds Paul Giamatti (Billions).
“We need to make sure we do everything we can to make sure every single vote is counted fairly and accurately,” says Harry Hamlin (LA Law), especially if the election isn’t called on Nov. 3, adds Carrie Preston (The Good Wife).
Other actors who appear in the PSA include Alan Rachins (LA Law), Carey Lowell (Law & Order), Dulé Hill (Suits), Gina Torres (Suits), J. Smith Cameron (Succession), Josh Charles (The Good Wife), Quincy Tyler Bernstine (Power), Raúl Esparza (Law & Order: SVU), Sam Waterston (Law & Order) and Stephanie March (Law & Order: SVU).
