The president's job approval rating falls below 50 percent for the first time since 2011

President Barack Obama's job performance is getting a thumbs down from record numbers of Californians, according to a new poll released on Tuesday.

The Field Poll found that 43 percent of California voters disapproved of Obama's job performance, while 45 percent approved.

This represents a drop of five percentage points since June and marks the first time Obama's approval rating in California has fallen below 50 percent since September 2011, Politico reported.

Nationally, the latest Gallup poll puts Obama's approval rating at 41 percent and his disapproval rating at 52 percent.

Californians, and the Hollywood community in particular, have been among the president's staunchest supporters. But his approval rating has plummeted by 11 points in Los Angeles County, his usual stronghold in the state.

Obama was most recently in L.A. in July to attend a fundraiser held at the home of Scandal creator Shonda Rhimes.
