Portfolio gets Radical for MIPTV

TORONTO -- Canadian distributor Portfolio Entertainment said Tuesday that it has picked up worldwide rights outside Canada to five preschool series from veteran kids producer Radical Sheep Prods. as it preps for the MIPTV market.

Toronto-based Portfolio, which in recent years has shifted into kids programming of its own, said it picked up the TV, home video, nontheatrical and multimedia rights to Radical Sheep's flagship preschool series "The Big Comfy Couch," which airs on PBS in the U.S. market, along with "Amigo and Me," "Ruffus the Dog," "Panda Bear Daycare" and "Land o' Hands."

Toronto-based Radical Sheep has produced 100 half-hours of live-action/puppetry series "Couch" and 65 five-minute episodes of "Amigo," a blend of live action and computer-generated animation.

Radical Sheep also has produced 26 15-minute episodes each of "Ruffus," a puppetry show about a wise-cracking dog, and "Daycare," another puppetry series featuring five children and their stuffed animal friend Panda.

Rounding out the Radical Sheep offering at MIPTV is 50 four-minute episodes of "Land o' Hands," a puppetry series set in a fanciful prehistoric world.
