Power taps Sakkalli for Asia push

LONDON -- Miniseries producer Power has poached Granada International vp Asian sales George Sakkalli to be its first vp Asian sales and distribution.

Sakkalli, who has spent eight years building contracts in the Far East, will be based in London but travel to the region "four to six times a year," a Power spokeswoman said.

The independent production company specializes in such high-end drama series as the Emmy nominated "The Virgin Queen" and its debut feature film outing, "Flood," is in postproduction.

His brief will be to expand sales in the territory, exploiting new and emerging platforms in the multiplatform markets of Korea, Indonesia, Singapore and Hong Kong as well as burgeoning cable and satellite opportunities in India.

"George's experience within Asia adds significantly to our international sales presence as we move into a new phase of growth and development," said Chris Philip, Power's head of global sales. "His in-depth market knowledge is central to our strategy to penetrate new markets."
