Premiere Sky targets Sept. launch

COLOGNE, Germany -- Leading German pay TV group Premiere will launch a new satellite service, Premiere Sky, in September with former NBC Universal Germany executive Wolfram Winter on board as managing director.

Winter left his job as managing director of NBC Universal Global Networks Germany late last year to head up satellite pay TV startup Stargate (HR 12/13). His move to Premiere suggests that Stargate's launch may be delayed.

Premiere Sky, a 100% subsidiary of Premiere, will package new and existing pay TV channels and primarily target Premiere's existing satellite customers. Unlike Premiere, which offers exclusive programming, Premiere Sky will feature pay channels and content already available to German customers via other platforms.

Winter said that Premiere Sky is in negotiations with satellite operator Astra concerning the use of its digital platform Entavio.
