Preta Test Drive: We Tried Pat McGrath's Dark Star 006 Eye Kit
It's not for the faint of heart.
If there's anything we've learned from past products in celebrity and runway makeup artist Pat McGrath's eponymous line, it's that the woman is not afraid of a bold (and glittery) look.
Her latest release, the Dark Star 006 eye kit ($95-$130, now available at Sephora and online at Pat McGrath Labs), has just as much shine and intensity as we've come to expect from the legendary artist. Each kit includes a blender brush, a black smudge liner and a pot of "cyber clear eye gloss," plus four different pigments to complement the look. On the heels of its release, three Pret-a-Reporter editors with varying degrees of makeup expertise decided to have some fun and try it ourselves.
The pro tip: The pigments are strong, the eyeliner is smooth and the "cyber clear eye gloss" is definitely a game-changer in terms of creating a wet look.
The glossed over: The brush didn't hold the pigment as well as it could have, and the look is not long-wearing. Five hours later, it had almost entirely come off.
The bottom line: Fun to play with for a big night out, but don't rely on it as a beauty staple. Also, we wish the products were sold individually because the eyeliner could be an everyday workhorse; it dries perfectly on application.
Watch below as we try the product, which is described online as a "tech-noir smoky eye kit for intergalactic glamour," for the first time.
