Primary Wave Music has appointed Grammy Award-nominated artist Eric Benét as head of its new Urban AC Division. Benét, also managed by Primary Wave, will serve as the A&R chief for the division, which will focus on signing urban AC artists for management and/or record deals.

Both Benét and his production partner Demonte Posey will also oversee production on recordings made by artists signed to the division. In addition, veteran urban music promotion executive Ken Wilson will head the team’s in-house urban radio promotions unit. Based in the company’s Los Angeles office, Wilson has previously held promotion posts at Columbia, MCA and J Records.

“I’ve been working with Eric for many years, and this new appointment only formalizes the great working relationship that we’ve already had in place,” says Primary Wave Music CEO Larry Mestel in a statement. “By adding the radio expertise of Ken Wilson to the urban division, we now are able to cover all bases.”

Noting his 20 years as a recording artist, Benét adds, “Joining the Primary Wave family on this new creative level will allow me to take on a different role in the music industry and lend my decades of experience to new and established artists during the recording process.”
