Prince Sells Out NYC Shows in 30 Minutes

The five-date Livenation trek, featuring performances by Janelle Monae and Maceo Parker, is a hot ticket on the East Coast.

A two-night stand at New York's 20,000-capacity Madison Square Garden, where Prince plans to play master of ceremonies to an all-star revue that will feature performances by Janelle Monae, Maceo Parker and Sheila E., among others, has sold out in 30 minutes. The December 18 and 29 shows, which The Purple One announced at an October 14 press conference held at Harlem's Apollo Theater, mark his first performances on the East Coast since 2004. Three more shows at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey, are scheduled for December 14, 15 and 17.

Upon announcing the five-date "Welcome 2 America" jaunt, Prince, who never plays the same set twice, encouraged ticket buyers to arrive early and "bring foot spray" because, "it's gonna be funky."
