'Private Practice' wins Wed. demo derby


NEW YORK -- ABC’s “Private Practice” grew, CBS’s “Criminal Minds” held steady and NBC’s “Bionic Woman” declined in the 9 p.m. battle of the network dramas Wednesday. “Pushing Daisies” won its time period in its second outing although down from its premiere.

“Private Practice” was the top show of the night in the adults 18-49 demographic, with Nielsen Media Research estimating 12.2 million viewers and a 4.8/12 in the demo. That was up 7% week to week, along with a 13% jump between 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

“Criminal Minds” (14.5 million, 3.8/10) held steady with last week but “Bionic Woman” (10.1 million, 3.8/10) was down another 7% after a strong start three weeks ago. Fox’s “Kitchen Nightmares” (6.4 million, 3.0/8) was up slightly from last week.

ABC’s “Pushing Daisies” (10.1 million, 3.6/11) fell 16% from last week’s debut but was still the 8 p.m. winner in adults 18-49. NBC’s “Deal or No Deal” (12.5 million, 3.1/9) rose 10% week-to-week while CBS’s “Kid Nation” (7 million, 2.0/6) dropped 16% compared to last week and has fallen every single outing. Fox’s “Back To You” (6.5 million, 2.2/7) shed 8% in the demo and tied The CW’s “America’s Next Top Model” (5.3 million, 2.5/7) in the half hour while “Til Death” (6.5 million, 2.4/7) was down slightly week to week.

Meanwhile at 10 p.m., it was another win for CBS’s “CSI: NY” (13.3 million, 4.0/11) and up slightly from last week. ABC’s “Dirty Sexy Money” (8.9 million, 3.4/9) was down only 3% from last week’s episode but dropped at the half hour while NBC’s “Life” (8.1 million, 2.8/8) fell 7% week to week.

For the evening, ABC (10.4 million, 3.9/11) led in viewership and adults 18-49 followed by CBS (11.6 million, 3.3/9); NBC (10.2 million, 3.2/9); Fox (6.5 million, 2.6/7); and The CW (4.1 million, 1.9/5).
