Producer Gilbert Adler livening up 'Dead'
Brandon Routh horror film gets financial injectionProducer Gilbert Adler is sinking his teeth into the horror film "Dead of Night," which starts production today in New Orleans. And DRAC Studios, whose creative director, Greg Cannom, won the makeup Oscar for "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," has come on to handle makeup effects.
Hyde Park Group and Platinum Studios are producing the vampire/werewolf/zombie flick that stars Brandon Routh.
Adapted from the top-selling 1986 Italian comic book series "Dylan Dog," created by Tiziano Sclavi, "Dead" stars Routh as a private investigator who stumbles onto the world of the undead. Kevin Munroe ("TMNT") is directing a screenplay by Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donnelly ("Sahara," "Conan the Barbarian"), who moved the action from the U.K. to the deep bayou of Louisiana.
The $20 million indie has acquired financing from Omnilab Media ("The Bank Job," "W.") and Hong Kong-based Standard Chartered Bank, a surprising feat in such a battered film-financing market. In addition to equity, Omnilab is providing P&A for the film's North American release.
Platinum Studios chairman and CEO Scott Mitchell Rosenberg and Ashok Amritraj of Hyde Park Entertainment Group also are producing.
Adler has been a producer on "Constantine," "Valkyrie," "Superman Returns," "House on Haunted Hill" and "Ghost Ship."
Platinum has "Atlantis Rising" and "Cowboys and Aliens" in development at DreamWorks with producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci and "Unique" in development at Disney.
Hyde Park recently produced "Traitor," "Premonition" and "Death Sentence." The company is in postproduction on the 3-D feature "The Dark Country" and has the Fox actioner "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li" hitting theaters Friday.
