Product placement welcome on Italian TV

Effort to boost sector, which suffers from lost revenue

ROME -- Italian television producers will be able to use product placement strategies in their programs, according to a government proposal Monday, as it seeks to bolster the sector as it suffers from falling revenue.

Italian filmmakers can already use product placement in films, but Italian television has been blocked from doing so under the terms of a 1982 law.

The proposal is expected to become law as part of a wider package aimed at helping the country's sagging economy.
