Pusan expands Euro offerings

Next month's Pusan International Film Festival will have an even heavier European accent than last year.

European Union-backed trade body European Film Promotion said Tuesday that 85 Eurozone titles will unspool during the festival, one-third more than last year's tally.

EFP, with cash backing from the EU's Media program, plans to ship a 20-strong party of actors, directors, writers and producers from 13 European countries to the event in Korea's second-largest city.

Guests scheduled to attend include Jean-Luc Godard's "favorite actress" Anna Karina, German director Emily Atef and Italian director Paolo Taviani.

The festival also plans to include a sidebar on Romanian New Wave films.

The festival is set for Oct. 2-10. EFP additionally is setting up an extended umbrella office at the fest's Asian Film Market (Oct. 3-6), which can be used by the European film industry for business meetings, film screenings and the display of promotional material. (partialdiff)
