Pusan reprograms market, festival

The Pusan International Film Festival, Asia's largest, has restructured the management of its Asian Film Market and named two new programmers to strengthen the selection of films competing at the fest's 14th edition in October.

PIFF has tapped Cho Young Jung, a world-cinema programmer in 2008, as its lead programmer for Asian cinema. Jeon Chan Il, a film critic and former world-cinema programmer, will select films for the event's Flash Forward section.

Cho and Jeon will work with the festival's executive programmer, 13-year veteran Kim Ji Seok.

Returning PIFF programmers include Lee Sangyoung for Korean cinema; Hong Hyosook for the festival's Wide Angle section of Korean independent, short and documentary films; Rhee Soue Won for French and Italian cinema; and Pak Dosin for the Midnight Passion section.

This year's market is Oct. 11-14. The festival is Oct. 8-16. (partialdiff)
