Quentin Tarantino masters Cannes

CANNES -- Quentin Tarantino will give this year's Cinema Masterclass during the Festival de Cannes in May, organizers said Thursday.

Tarantino is no stranger to the festival, having most recently accompanied "Death Proof" to a Competition slot last year.

Tarantino won the Palme d'Or in 1994 for "Pulp Fiction" and was jury president in 2004. Tarantino will speak to an audience during Cannes about his professional experiences as a filmmaker and screenplay writer, "with all the spark and enthusiasm for film we know and love him for," Festival de Cannes organizers said.

Tarantino follows previous masterclasses given by Sydney Pollack, Wong Kar Wai, Nanni Moretti, Stephen Frears and, most recently, Martin Scorsese in 2007. The Festival de Cannes will roll out the red carpet for its 61st edition May 14-28.
